Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email message as needed to answer it. Messages remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers may collect basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view dates and times
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- IP address assigned to the device
- Visited pages and time spent on them
- Referring website, when one is available
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted search to the selected partner service
- Maintaining site speed, reliability, and availability
- Finding and repairing technical faults
- Understanding which pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The content identifies where Orleans County records may be requested from courts, the sheriff, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal histories.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy, including its retention and sharing rules. Review that policy before sending a query because we do not control the provider's practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, sheriff pages, New York agencies, legal resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor leaves our pages, the destination's privacy terms apply. Those terms should be reviewed before personal information is shared.
Some advertising providers may track activity across websites for targeted ads. That tracking occurs through the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query sent through their tool
- Advertising networks serving ads on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs requests to public agencies, while Executive Law §837 controls criminal-history dissemination by DCJS. Those statutes do not turn this private site into a public records office. Subject to other applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask what personal information we retain
- Seek deletion of retained personal data
- Opt out of eligible forms of processing
